Both groundbreaking and well-criticized, the runaway hit ultimately disappointed its huge lesbian fan-base after Tila Tequila picked Bobby over Dani Campbell. The finale aired 10pm Tuesday night on MTV.

If one were political, this could be seen as yet another triumph of the patriarchy. If one hated Tila, it would be a relief. And if one wants Dani, it would be a time to party.

Surprise! Surprise?

Some fans were shocked with Tila’s decision, thinking Dani already had it in the bad after seeing Tila’s response to Dani’s loving family, and their emotional date in Cancun. People openly talked about crying when Dani was sent home packing. Dani’s own MySpace blog was littered with comments.

A fan named Kris was devastated. “dude…i’m still heart broken…but you shouldn’t be!!! you deserve the best and she wasnt it. love you dani! ur my role model.”

Susan said, “Dani, I am so disappointed that you weren’t picked…what was Tila thinking??? You seem so genuine and this show is just a stepping stone in your life. You live and you learn. I think I can say everyone watched the show because they wanted to see you win. You won our hearts!!! Keep your head up, you’re a great person. I’d love to see you have your own show and look for love!!! You deserve everything in life. Good luck with everything you do. I’ll be watching for you in the future. If I was a lesbian, you’d be my #1 ! Stay sweet.”

Others took it with a grain of salt. Kimberly advised, “everything happens or a reason. one day you will find that special girl that will bring you tons of happiness. till then you rock! and you are someone I admire!”

Angel Baby was more quick to recover than most. “Tila’s Loss. Lets get over it and Move on! I bet you could not wait for this all to be over. Yeaaah You were the best all around. You have come out with so much more. So go for It Dani. You deserve it!”

For myself, I was sad with Tila’s decision, but not overly so. She said she was bisexual, and she chose a man. Tell her deal with her choice. The things that bugs me is that before chlosing the show, she happily shouted, “I ended up with a man!” What the?! Go play up the ratings while adding insult to injury, why don’t you. I agree with a lot of you out there: Dani deserves someone better.

Looking to the Future

Let’s all remember that the episodes were long ago, and with Dani being as positive as she is, I’m sure she has been moving on pretty well. Now that Tila has said “NO” to her, we have in our midst probably the most eligible lesbian bachelorette on the planet. Judging from fans’ reactions, a lot of ladies seem to be lining up for a date with Dani. So how about some tips?

In a recent interview with AfterEllen, Malinda Lo asked Dani Campbell about the kind of girl she’s looking for. Here’s what Dani had to say:

“When I do look for girls, I guess I just look for someone that’s really confident. Very outgoing, likes to go out and have a good time, intelligent. I like girls that are shorter than me. I like long dark hair. [laughs] That’s about it, I guess.”

“The more we are not afraid of being who we are, the quicker we come out of the shadow of society, and the easier it will be to be gay, and we can start working towards equality for everybody. That’s it. My little speech. [laughs]
